Stew Leonard III Children's Charities Makes Leadership Grant

Stew Leonard III Children's Charities has announced a $10,000 grant to support the after school swim program sponsored by Young Mariners Foundation for children in 5 Stamford elementary schools and two community centers. Over 100 children at Toquam, Rogers International, Hart, Stark and KT Murphy schools will participate in the Young Mariners program.

Drowning is a leading cause of accidental death among young children. Stew Leonard III Children's Charities is a Norwalk based organization that supports water safety and children's nutrition. Young Mariners Foundation in Stamford funds after school and summer education programs for underserved children. Programs address the achievement gap that low income children experience in relation to their middle income peers. Swimming, sailing and water safety are a "hands on" way to offer math, science and social studies enrichment. Children learn by doing and have fun in the process.

The two organizations have teamed up to achieve their shared goals of enriching kids' lives while keeping them safe. They provide life skills that help children take full advantage of their home town's waterfront activities.
